Compal Alarm System
COMPAL is an exciting new multi function Compact Power Management
and Alarm systema five socket 13amp extension lead which incorporates
power surge protection circuitry and a master / slave power supply
facility which allows one of the 13amp sockets to be used to
control the supply of power to the other four sockets.
The unit is also a full function stand alone alarm (with its
own internal 130db siren), capable of protecting up to ten individual
items either via their electrical power cords (e.g. PCs, video
equipment, etc), or any type of item via a range of special sensor
cables.
The unit offers tremendous flexibility, is customer installable
and can quickly and easily be relocated to an alternative room
or site as needs demand.
Alarm function
Simply plug the Compal unit into any 13amp electrical mains socket
and it immediately becomes a self contained alarm system. Items
to be protected by the alarm must be physically connected to
the Compal either by their electrical power cord or via one of
the optional special sensor cables.
Once all items are connected to the Compal, forming the alarm
circuits, the unit is armed with the integral keyswitch. Once
armed the alarm is triggered by any subsequent interference with
any of the special sensor cable circuits (e.g. cutting the wires,
breaking the attachment to the item protected, or unplugging
the sensor cable from the Compal), or where the equipment is
protected via the power supply link, by breaking the power cord
connection between the equipment and the Compal's 13amp socket.
The alarm is also immediately activated by any attempt to disconnect
or switch off the mains power to the Compal. The internal Nicad
battery maintains the integrity of the alarm in the event of
an interruption of the power supply to the unit, whilst intelligent
circuitry prevents false alarms resulting from power cuts.

Surge protection function
The surge protection facility protects all five 13amp sockets
on the Compal.
Power management 'master/slave' function
A simple switch within the secure battery compartment on the
top face of the Compal provides the means to prohibit the supply
of power to four of the five 13amp sockets unless the master
socket is in use and supplying power to an item of external equipment.
This provides a simple means of powering multiple items of equipment
on or off concurrently by throwing a single switch
Suitable Equipment for protection
Equipment is suitable for protection via the power lead connection
to the Compal where the circuitry of the equipment to be protected
incorporates an input capacitor (e.g. as typically found in PCs,
Video equipment, etc.). Simply plugging the equipment into one
of the Compal sockets will immediately identify the presence
of an input capacitor as the red LED indicator associated with
the socket will illuminate.
