All you ever need to know about CCTV - and how it can help
you stamp
out:- theft, break-ins, vandalism,
graffiti, knife carrying, violent behaviour, bullying and more...
The DVR recorder and DVR surveillance cameras form the backbone
of modern CCTV systems. Volume production and advanced manufacturing methods, have
brought prices tumbling down over recent years, so
you can easily afford a
professional quality digital CCTV system of your own.
Here are some ways that CCTV could be helping you:
Whether you represent a major corporation, a family business, or
you are just looking for a system for home use, there is a system that's
right for you, but without expert advice it's easy to spend more than you
need to.
So what will you need?
- if you just want to monitor a location that is not in direct line of
sight, i.e. monitor an entrance door from your reception area, or keep an
eye on your kids in the garden while you are indoors, a simple observation
system will do the job.
- if you want to record the images from the camera for subsequent use,
i.e. a security application, then your system will need to include some
form of video image recorder
- obviously you will want a camera(s) for your system and there
are a wide range to choose from, to suit any need.
- to display the images from the camera, a monitor will be required.
For domestic applications, a standard TV may be adequate, while for
business environments a professional quality monitor will probably be
required.
- if your cameras need to film at night or in low light areas, you may
need to use an infra-red equipped camera, or use supplementary lighting.
Infra-red lighting units emit a light which is invisible to the human eye,
so is not intrusive to neighbours, etc. and will not pollute the night
sky. - CCTV systems are covered by the Data Protection Act 1998.
Systems installed for commercial use must comply with current legislation
which covers such areas as displaying warning signs, the security,
management and use of recorded images, etc. Domestic CCTV system
installations will typically not need any special compliance
measures.
